HOLLY TOWNSHIP (WXYZ) — The Lauback family's home in Holly was destroyed by fire on April 19 in the early hours. The owners, David and Sarah, and nine others in the home made it out safely.

"I think we are all still numb," said Sarah, who is a director of nursing at a senior care facility. "I don't think it seems real yet."

While the cause of the blaze is still under investigation, the family said it could have started due to a short in a bathroom fan.

David is also an essential worker on the frontline of the pandemic. He works as a correctional officers at a prison in Michigan. He was forced to take a leave of absence.

"We just need to be together now as a family and figure things out," David said.

The flames caused damaged to over 90% of the home including the roof, walls and bedrooms.

A GoFundMe page was set up to help the family cope with the expenses of the fire. You can donate here.
