(WXYZ) — Firefighters rescued a snowmobiler who broke through the ice on the north end of N. Commerce Lake Wednesday evening.

Firefighters, Oakland County Sheriff's deputies and local EMS crews were called to the area around 9 p.m. when a resident on Creedmore Street reported that a snowmobiler drove out onto the lake, broke through the thin ice and was crying for help.

First responders rescued the victim from the lake; the victim was reportedly in good condition.

Officials say the victim was "extremely lucky" because the snowmobile went through the ice in a fairly shallow area of the lake.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office and Commerce Township Fire Department remind everyone that area lakes and streams are extremely dangerous due to the relatively warm winter.
