Ford employees have introduced a new concept van aim at making deliveries on the fly.
It’s a vehicle that’s autonomous, electric and — armed with drones
The automaker’s concept "Autolivery" service was recently showcased at Mobile World Congress in Spain.
But, of course, the demonstrations were all done through virtual reality headsets because it's not quite a reality yet.
Ford says in a news release that the vision for this futuristic van includes delivering supplies to homes on-demand. On-board drones would act as an aid to take groceries or other items the final leg of the journey.
The concept van was developed in Ford's Last Mile Mobility Challenge, according to the company. The program encourages employees to get creative when it comes to city-life mobility challenges.
While this Autoliverly concept is something that can’t be hitting the roads soon, the automaker says it plans to have a fully self-driving vehicle for similar services ready to go in 2021.
