White Boy Rick is scheduled to have a video conference later today with a member of the state parole board.
The former drug dealer, whose real name is Richard Wershe, was just a teenager when he began working for the FBI to help nab other drug dealers.
Then, in 1988, he was sentenced to life in prison at just 17 years old for a single conviction of cocaine possession.
He is Michigan's longest serving prisoner for a non-violent crime.
Today's video interview with a board member could lead to a formal review and full hearing by the parole board.
Even if today's interview goes well, there is no timeline for when White Boy Rick will get a full hearing for parole.
The law that got him life in prison is no longer on the books.
A judge said he was entitled to a new sentence hearing, but the Michigan Court of Appeals denied that re-sentencing hearing.
His request went all the way to the Michigan Supreme Court, where the appeal was also denied.
Even a former FBI supervisor has said there is no benefit to keep him in prison.
