(WXYZ) — Former Democratic gubernatorial candidate Shri Thanedar is moving to a home in Detroit and considering a run for political office, he confirmed Saturday to 7 Action News.

“I am relocating to Detroit (at the) end of July and will soon announce my plans to serve the people of Detroit,” Thanedar said.

The Ann Arbor entrepreneur narrowly captured Detroit in the gubernatorial primary, but finished in last place statewide behind former Detroit health director Abdul El-Sayed and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

Thanedar, who would not specify his future plans, was rumored to be considering a run for Detroit mayor. During the 2018 gubernatorial primary, Thanedar poured $10 million of his own money into his campaign with night and day campaign commercials and “Shri for We” billboards.

As of Friday, Thanedar’s 5,000-square-foot home in Ann Arbor was listed on the market for $1.1 million. He said he plans to relocate to Detroit’s Palmer Woods neighborhood.
