Two former Riverview fire officials have been charged in connection with a time card fraud scheme that occurred over multiple years.

Former Riverview Fire Chief Donald Meyer, 64, allegedly submitted falsified time cards for $20,307 in unearned wages from Dec. 20, 2013, through March 3, 2018.

Additionally, former Fire Lieutenant Scott Brighton, 42, allegedly submitted falsified time cards for $27,402 in unearned wages.

An internal time card audit revealed that Meyer and Brighton inflated the hours on their time cards and falsely claimed they were working, according to a release from the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.

On Aug. 23, Meyer and Brighton were terminated from the Riverview Fire Department.

They have each been charged with one count of Larceny by False Pretenses - $20,000 to $50,000, a 15-year felony, and one count of Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property over $20,000, a 10-year felony.
