(WXYZ) — Former Wayne Councilman Christopher James Sanders has been charged in connection with allegedly planting a gun and fake drugs in a city employee's car.

Sanders was charged along with another defendant, Jimmie Lee Chandler.

Prosecutors say that on Oct. 16, 2017, Sanders allegedly paid Chandler to break into the vehicle of an employee of the City of Wayne and plant a starter pistol and fake drugs in her car.

After she left her office parking lot, Chandler allegedly called 911 to report a false road rage incident and identified her vehicle.

She was never stopped by police and discovered the pistol and suspected narcotics in her glovebox. She then reported them to the City of Wayne Police Department.

Sanders and Chandler were arrested after an investigation by Michigan State Police.

They have each been charged with False Report of a Felony, Conspiracy to Commit False Report of a Felony and Attempted False Report of a Felony.

Sanders was arraigned Monday and received a $10,000 personal bond.

Chandler received a $1,000 personal bond.
