Hundreds of thousands of people will be hitting the roads or the skies this weekend for Memorial Day, and according to TripAdvisor, the Friday before Memorial Day is one of the busiest travel days of the year.
In a survey of more than 3,300 people, 30 percent said they will be traveling on Friday.
On top of that, Memorial Day travel is expected to be up six percent this year.
Of the people traveling, 74 percent said they will be driving, and 21 percent said they plan to drive between 101 and 200 miles. 20 percent will go between 201 and 300 miles and 16 percent will stay close to home and drive between 51 and 100 miles.
The other 32 percent planning to fly should expect more travelers as well, with a six percent rise in air travel this weekend.
Those traveling say their weekend trips include:
- Beach/Ocean trip - 26 percent
- City excursion - 25 percent
- Mountain getaway - 12 percent
- Lake escape - 11 percent
- National Park visit - 9 percent
