UTICA, Mich. (WXYZ) — Family and friends of a man stabbed to death at a public park in are calling for justice one year after his death.

Mike Shereda was killed while he was at his granddaughter's birthday party at a park last September.

Court documents allege that Shereda walked over to Miguel Mansour, who seemed to be doing drugs on a park bench. Shereda asked Mansour to stop - then Mansour allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Shereda to death.

The family says they hope the suspect will get the punishment he "deserves."

"We cannot get past this or through this until this is over," his daughter, Angel, said. "We haven't even really been able to grieve."

The trial for Mansour is set to begin in January 2020.
