The Detroit Yacht Club Foundation is hosting a fundraising gala to restore the Detroit Yacht Club back to its glory.
Right now, the restoration process is in phase three. The building still needs windows replaced, brickwork fixed and the roof repaired. The total project is estimated to cost about $3 million, but the foundation is fixing what they can, when they can.
"We take a beating from the weather and from age," says Mark Lifter, Detroit Yacht Club Foundation. "It's really a community asset. The clubhouse is a community asset. It's a fantastic building. It's probably the grandest yacht club building in the United States. It's very large, it has great facilities."
The building was built in 1923, but isn't in the best shape. Money raised from the gala will help restore it.
The City Lights Gala is Friday May 20, 2016 at The Historic Detroit Yacht Club on Belle Isle. It starts at 7 p.m. and tickets can be found here, starting at $150.
