Girl Scouts to get supply chain experience

Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan will soon get a glimpse at the supply chain process when it comes to their popular cookies.

A Detroit-based company, Evans Distribution Systems, is working with Kellog's, Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan and UPS to give girls the opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at the "Digital Cookie" supply chain process.

The Digital Cookie program launched in 2015 and lets scouts create their own cookie website or app to make sales. More than 850,000 boxes of cookies were sold online within the first year.

The girls will be able to place an order online, select orders, package them and prepare them to ship.

Nearly 60 scouts are expected to attend the event on February 24 at the Evans' distribution facility in Melvindale from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

This is an exciting opportunity for Evans,” said Evans Distribution’s president John Evans in a press release. “Girl Scouts is an amazing organization that provides great opportunities for young girls. We’re thrilled to be able to support its mission and take part in educating the next generation about business and the supply chain process as a whole."
