CEO and Chairwoman of General Motors Mary Barra will be conducting private meetings with leaders of other states.

She spoke publicly at the Renaissance Center Wednesday night, addressing the job cuts announced for Michigan, Ohio and Canada.

Barra said those cuts were part of a "bigger plan."

She also spoke about retraining some employees impacted by the plant closures briefly both in Michigan and across the border in Canada.

"Each person has a different career ambition or a different mobility or flexibility, so we are working with them. There's also retraining opportunities, and similar work is going on in Canada," Barra said.

She made it clear that closing plants doesn't mean GM isn't ready for growth.

Ohio's governor and lieutenant governor attended the auto show Wednesday and set up a private meeting with Barra.
