TAYLOR, Mich. (WXYZ) — Google is planning a massive investment in Michigan to expand offices based in Detroit and Ann Arbor, the company announced on Monday at an event in Taylor.

They will spend $17 million to improve and expand the offices, and they already have more than 600 employees in the state.

“We greatly value being in southeast Michigan; that’s why we’ve been here for over 13 years,” Ruth Porat, Google’s Chief Financial Officer, said in a release.. “Through Grow with Google, we’re also committed to helping people across the state get the skills they need to succeed in today’s increasingly digital workplace.”

Last November, they opened an office inside Little Caesars Arena, and the newest Ann Arbor campus opened in 2017.

Once the expansions are complete, Google will have more than 260,000-square-feet across the state.

“This tremendous investment is yet another example of the business community’s faith that we can make Michigan a home for opportunity for generations to come,” Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said in a release. “We are proud of our relationship with Google, and their Grow with Google program will ensure that more people have a pathway to the skills they need for a high-paying career in our state.”
