DETROIT (WXYZ) — You might find Ryker sitting down to enjoy a good book, shooting hoops on the basketball court, or diving into a video game. But he’s really looking forward to sharing his experiences with an adoptive family. He’s been waiting to be adopted since September of 2017.

“I would like a dad that would play video games. If he don’t play video games, I would like a dad that would try to play video games with me -- show interest in the things I’m interested in. Talking through problems would help a lot,” explained Ryker.

The 16-year-old who’s in foster care hopes to be adopted before he ages out of the system at 18.

How would his friends describe him best?

“I can be quite sometimes. I can be outgoing,” he said. “Cool, protective. I’m loyal to my friends. I will stand up to any kind of bully because I was bullied for a long time. I don’t like bullies.”

“I love reading graphic novels, fantasy, action adventure – as long as it’s fiction,” he said.

He considers himself to be competitive when it comes to sports, board games, and video games.

“My best day ever would be playing video games. I’d play Call of Duty 4,” said Ryker.

He also likes to be active.

“I will play any kind of basketball…I have a good arm in football, too. I’m more into basketball than football,” Ryker explained.

“My perfect job would be a librarian with a beta tester on the side,” he answered when asked about his future.

But the future he’s most interested in involves being adopted.

“I’d rather have a family that has a dad,” he said. “I need a family to live. I cannot go without a family. I need a family before I can go and be by myself,” he said softly.
