If you’re an animal lover, you’ll have something in common with 12-year-old Rachel. The seventh grader -- who is in Michigan’s foster care system -- is hoping to be adopted into a family one day soon.

“I describe myself as nice and funny,” said Rachel.

She’s an avid reader. The “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” series is one of her favorites.

Rachel is also an active Girl Scout who likes selling cookies and taking part in outdoor activities such as biking and swimming.

She also enjoys coloring and being creative.

“I like art. I’m really good at art. I draw. I draw the outside and imagine what my future would look like,” she explained.

But she also enjoys the culinary arts.

“I like to cook. I cook at home,” she said.  She also enjoys McDonald’s – especially the chain’s chicken sandwiches.

But she is probably most passionate about animals.  She envisions becoming a veterinarian in her future.

“If an animal gets accidentally hit by a car or has a hurt leg, I’ll see if I can help them,” she said.

Her favorite animals are cats and dogs.

Game night with her future family is also a dream of hers.

“I want to play board games with my family like Candy Land and Uno,” she said.

And when it comes to the holidays, she just wants to be with a big family.

“I’d like to have family [there], and some of their family members over so we can open presents all together like a family,” she said with a smile.

“I’ve always wished to have a Mom and Dad and some siblings,” she added.
