Grinch steals holiday packages from metro Detroit neighborhood

Posted

It's that time of year when people are holiday shopping online, which means their purchases are being delivered to their doorstep.

There have been several incidents of stolen packages.

One thief in Sterling Heights stole toys meant for a little girl battling a medical condition.

The girl's mother said there were three packages on her porch Tuesday and the person who took it may have hit other neighbors as well.

Inside were toys and pajamas for a toddler and 6-year-old who has been anxiously counting down the days until Christmas.

"I felt violated. Those were my children's presents," Katie Wood said. "You didn't steal from me. You stole from an innocent 2-year-old and 6-year-old."

Wood is upset after learning that someone driving a silver four-door car took off with three packages left at her door in Sterling Heights.

"I can't believe it, somebody pulled up in our driveway and took our packages."

Inside were toys and pajamas for 2-year-old Madison and 6-year-old Annalyn.

Annalyn has been dealing with medical issues this year and she was hoping the holidays would cheer her up.

"I'm trying to create the magic for my daughter's Christmas and someone just doesn't care," Katie said.

This Grinch in his silver "sleigh" may have hit other homes in the area of 19 Mile and Hayes.

Katie has installed more security cameras and decided to no longer have packages dropped off on her porch, so Annalyn's holiday won't be ruined.

"I just wanted to give her the best Christmas. I know you can't make up for everything that she has been put through this year."

Police say they are investigating this and other incidents of packages being stolen.

They also believe they have the license plate of the thief -- but they have not released that information just yet.
