The U.S. Coast Guard approved a closure of the Grosse Ile Parkway Bridge to marine traffic beginning Monday, Sept. 21.
During the closure, small boats capable of going under the bridge opening will be allowed to travel under one of the two swing spans at all times. One of the spans will have low-hanging scaffolding and will be clearly marked. Boaters will have to go under the span where there is no active work.
Those boats that require a bridge opening will not be able to travel under the bridge.
The closure is expected to last through winter 2020.
The bridge has been closed to vehicle traffic since April for major improvements.
