(WXYZ) — The president of the Grosse Pointe Public School System Board of Education is resigning.

Brian C. Summerfield announced his resignation Thursday via social media. He cited his role as president was taking a toll on his family.

Summerfield wrote: "It was a very difficult decision, and I was reluctant to do so, but my family could no longer bear the burden of my continued service."

He was elected to the board in back in 2014.
