DETROIT (WXYZ) — What if you never had to cut your lawn again?

In the past, that would mean a lawn care service that involves people and scheduling around weather — the folks at Robin Autopilot believe you can do better.

“We’re trying to do something a little different,” explains Michael Hill, part of the husband-wife duo behind the local company bringing Robin Autopilot to Detroit. “We want to make lawn service something you love, not just something you like.”

Michael and Kristi Hill stumbled onto robotic lawn mowing when the product appeared on Shark Tank — they saw the value of the product: it’s quieter than a typical lawn mower and doesn’t need any attention to do its job. Since it cuts daily, it never leaves debris to be raked.

The “robot lawn mower” is self-charging, so the only thing it needs is power to a charging port that’s set up by their staff along with guide wires that are buried several inches underground so that no one ever sees it.

The founder of the company notes that the 1989 Exxon-Valdez spill put more than 11 million gallons into the ocean — this product eliminates the need to dump oil and gas into a lawn mower, which some experts estimate lead to as many as 17 million gallons of spilled fuel across the country.

While the robot won’t do edging, trimming or weeding — the subscription service provided by Robin Autopilot allows for typical workers to stop by and do that work in-between daily cuttings. Since they aren’t focusing on the entire lawn, it cuts down on the need for maintenance, and the maintenance that is needed gets 100 percent of the human attention.

Those who want to get their own robot can sign up to buy it at the end of 24 payments — or they can keep the program active with lawn service from the company. The packages starts at $99/month, and rise depending on the size of the yard that needs to be cut. If you have a fence, the Robin Autopilot can be installed with a door that opens and closes in conjunction with the robot so family pets can’t use it to escape.
