The heat is causing area schools to close early, and some are not even opening at all this Tuesday.
More than 50 schools, all in Wayne County, are affected by the heat. Many of them are staying open until 11 a.m., but closing as the afternoon heat sinks in.
Many of these older schools do not have air conditioning, making conditions inside extremely uncomfortable and possibly dangerous with no air flow.
The city has opened cooling centers throughout the Detroit. The main library along with a dozen other branches are also open to help keep people protected from the hot summer temps.
Today is also an Ozone Action Day. You're encouraged to carpool, delay using lawn mowers, and refuel your car during daylight hours.
