Here's how you can claim someone else's things at the state's Unclaimed Property Auction

LANSING, Mich. — Unclaimed property are up for grabs in an upcoming auction.

Michigan Unclaimed Property will hold a public auction at the Quality Suites of Lansing in Delta Township on Saturday, June 22. The auction will have a variety of things such as coins, currency, jewelry and many other collectibles.

Under Michigan's Uniform Unclaimed Property Act, The Michigan Department of Treasury receives abandoned articles and attempts to return those items to its owner. The items that are not claimed are put up to auction.

The public will be able to inspect the unclaimed items the day before the auction at 901 Delta Commerce Drive from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. On Saturday, doors open at 8 a.m. with the auction starting at 9 a.m. Payments should be made in cash, Visa, MasterCard or Discover.

Proceeds from this auction and other unclaimed funds can be claimed by rightful owners or heirs by submitting an electronic claim form or by calling Michigan Unclaimed Property at 517-636-5320.
