(WXYZ) — The calendar turned to September just a few days ago and many people now have their eyes on the trees as Michigan's fall colors will slowly begin to arrive.

SmokyMountains.com has once again published its interactive fall foliage map which aims to predict when fall colors will hit their peak throughout the country.

According to the website, the Upper Peninsula and northern tip of the Lower Peninsula could hit a partial peak around Sept. 14 before hitting peak colors on Sept. 28.

For metro Detroit, we're expected to hit patch fall colors on Sept. 28, partial fall colors on Oct. 5, near peak on Oct. 12 and peak on Oct. 19.

By the time we hit peak in metro Detroit, the rest of the state north of the southern counties will be past peak.

"While no tool can be 100% accurate, this tool is meant to help travelers better time their trips to have the best opportunity of catching peak color each year," the website writes.
