A Salem High School senior journalist was hit with a huge bill after submitting a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request.
Chris Robbins was doing a story about why the Plymouth-Canton School District was blocking websites, which websites were being block and who made the decision to block them.
He submitted a FOIA request for a e-mails where staff & faculty made appeals to blocked websites, a list of which websites were blocked and the reasons why they were blocked.
The district said Chris could have all of those, but it would cost him $8,000.
"I was completely surprised," he said. "I didn't expect them to bill a student that much money for anything."
The district said the fee covers the costs of gathering the e-mails, and for now, he is writing the story without them.
