HopCat announced it will be changing the name of its signature "Crack Fries" because "drug addiction is not a joke."

The announcement came from Mark Gray, CEO of BarFly Ventures, HopCat's parent company.

In a blog post, Gray said the company chose the name more than 11 years ago "as a reference to the addictive quality of the fries and their cracked pepper seasoning."

"The crack epidemic and the lasting impact on those it affects is not funny and never was," Gray said in the post.

There will be a new reprint of menus companywide in mid-January to reflect changes, although the new name has not yet been revealed.

"It is not only the right thing to do, it reflects who we are," Gray said.
