ROYAL OAK, Mich. (WXYZ) — Hopcat is closing its Royal Oak location, 7 Action News has learned, but does plan to open in a new spot.

The news was first reported by Eater Detroit, as the chain has temporarily closed all of its restaurants amid the coronavirus outbreak.

"It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of our HopCat – Royal Oak location. Unfortunately, after extensive negotiation with the landlord — with the goal of securing the location and employee jobs — we were unable to come to a reasonable agreement and the landlord has demanded we vacate the building. We will be seeking a new location in Royal Oak so we can resume serving this awesome community in the future. We thank you for your loyalty and friendship over the years, the support and kind words many of you have sent our way the past few months during this crisis. We promise we will be back in Royal Oak at some point in the future. So let’s not say goodbye, let’s just say “until we meet again.”

The massive restaurant and bar opened in downtown Royal Oak three years ago.
