With Hurricane Harvey expected to make landfall in Texas as a possible category 3 storm, the effects of the hurricane could be felt nationwide at the pump.

According to GasBuddy, gas prices are expected to rise across the nation as the hurricane forces companies to shut down refineries in Texas, which is home to the largest refining hub.

The hurricane could force a large disruption in gasoline supply which will send prices much higher in the country. They are already up 10 cents in some areas.

“This storm came out of left field and while we were all watching the eclipse, Harvey was gaining steam and
pushing forward. The impact on Texas could be significant, which could lead to long-term issues in terms of
gasoline supply for large portions of the country," GasBuddy Analyst Patrick DeHaan said.

GasBuddy has turned on its gas availability tracker, at tracker.gasbuddy.com, which will show the areas that have fuel and the prices.

According to GasBuddy, a clearer picture on prices and availability is expected over the new few days.
