Hyperloop company to begin testing in Las Vegas

Posted

The team behind a new kind of transportation system has received the green light to start testing.

Hyperloop Technologies Inc. recently announced a land deal for testing part of their travel system in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Hyperloop Technologies is out to develop the world’s next transportation system—think of it as high speed pod travel. An electric propulsion system would move the pod through a very low pressurized tube between two destinations.

The company will begin a Propulsion Open Air Test in the first quarter of 2016 on a 50 acre site in north Las Vegas. That entails running a custom designed electric motor on a track that’s just under a mile long.

Hardware for the testing is set to start arriving later this month.

The CEO of Hyperloop Technologies says in a press release that this is a major milestone in their journey to bring Hyperloop to commercial reality. The goal is to have a fully operational Hyperloop system by 2020.
