Police are investigating after a fatal accident on Detroit's west side had I-96 eastbound shut down just after Grand River for hours this morning.
We're told emergency crews were called to the scene around 4 a.m.
Police say there were three vehicles involved in the crash. MSP Lt. Mike Shaw says one vehicle rear-ended another -- and then the driver of a third car swerved to avoid the other two and rolled over. The driver of that third vehicle was ejected and died at the scene, according to Shaw.
Police say the second driver sustained non-life threatening injuries and the driver of the first vehicle fled the scene on foot.
Police have since located the driver that ran from the scene. They don't know which driver caused the crash.
