(WXYZ) — A proposal for a new rail transit service from metro Detroit to Toledo is picking up steam.

An expert who has been studying the proposal for the last three months released his findings Tuesday.

The study compared two systems: one that would travel 79 miles an hour and a high-speed option that would go 110 miles per hour.

The goal is to fuel jobs and economic opportunity in the region, but it could be a while before such a service is up and running.

The proposed route would include stops in Toledo, Monroe, Detroit, Metro Airport and Ann Arbor.

It indicates the rail line would provide significant economic benefits for the region.
