TAYLOR, Mich. (WXYZ) — The Teachers Union is now responding to the controversial photo of Taylor High School teachers and counselors giving the middle finger.

According to the Taylor Teachers Federation, the photo, making its way through social media, was not posted by a teacher. Nonetheless, the image is sparking debate.

The Taylor High School staff members reportedly took the photo in the fall during a goodbye party for an assistant principal leaving the district.

The president of the Teachers Union told Action News the photo was supposed to be private. A hard copy of the photo was kept at a counselor's desk. President Linda Moore said a student went into the office, saw the photo and snapped a picture.

"It was a joke. You know, for him leaving the district. It was a private photo taken after school hours with no students around," said Moore.

The superintendent of Taylor Schools tells 7 Action News they are still looking into the photo. Moore says they are launching their own investigation into the student they say obtained the photo.
