CARO, Mich. (WXYZ) — A small town Michigan car dealership has an unexpected connection to a Super Bowl commercial featuring famous actor Bill Murray.
The ad reprises Murray's role from the iconic movie "Groundhog Day," however, this time he drives around in a new Jeep Gladiator.
The 2020 vehicle was selected from Moore Motor Sales in Caro, according to the dealership.
Denny King, the dealership's internet manager and salesman, said they received a call requesting the customized vehicle prior to the Super Bowl, which happened on Feb 2. in Miami, Florida.
They weren't told it would be used in the Super Bowl commercial. King said the details were kept on the down low.
"I actually saw it in the Super Bowl and said that was the best commercial ever," King said. "I had no clue until the next morning... that was our Jeep."
King said he dug deeper and found out more details about the commercial.
"They had this for a couple weeks," King said. "They shot the commercial Jan 26-27 in Illinois. Apparently, they pick them up from the dealership (and took) them to Penske in Detroit to be cleaned."
He posted photos online of the vehicle and what claims to be hair from the Groundhog also featured in the ad.
“I got asked if it smelled like Groundhog or cigar smoke because apparently Bill Murray must be know for smoking cigars,” King said.
The vehicle is for sale at the tune of $57,000. Of course, that's negotiable.
King said people in town have come by to take selfies with the pickup truck.
