(WXYZ) — Kelly Stafford praised her brain surgeon in an emotional post on Instagram.
Stafford referred to Dr. Thompson at the University of Michigan Hospital as "the man God chose to remove my brain tumor."
"He reminded me of my dad," she said. "He truly cared and was empathetic, which meant so much to me."
Stafford said the 6-hour surgery ended up being a full 12 hours. During the surgery, Dr. Thompson saw an anomalous artery that was extremely rare.
"There was a moment when they thought I might have lost my hearing completely," she said. "He made everyone and everything stop, they all sat and waited for some time...the audio wave returned. His patience saved my hearing, as well as my face," she said.
Stafford said Dr. Thompson visited every day after the surgery. When she ended up back in the hospital, he drove an hour from Ann Arbor to the hospital to make sure she was okay.
"I will forever be in debt to this man and his team," she said.
