What's it like to be a kid growing up in Michigan?
The newly released 2017 Kids Count in Michigan Data Book examined a number of factors that contribute to overall child well-being including economic security, health and education.
According to the report, more than 1 in 5 Michigan children lived in poverty in 2015, which is a 15 percent increase since 2008 -- the last full year of the Great Recession.
Eighty-two counties across the state were analyzed and ranked based on overall child well-being, with Ottawa County at the top of the list.
The Metro Detroit counties that made the top 20 are Oakland, Livingston, Washtenaw, Macomb and Monroe.
Wayne County, meanwhile, was named 58 out of 82.
In 2015, which is the most current data available, 37 percent of kids in Wayne County were living in poverty.
