(WXYZ) — A 72-year-old man whose money was stolen from his wallet was reimbursed from a kind stranger.

On Nov. 30, 2020, Wyandotte police say the man accidentally left his wallet near the cash register at Shopper's Valley. The man returned to the store 30 minutes later after he realized his wallet was missing.

The store's owner, Larry, helped the man find his wallet, but when it was opened, they discovered $700 in cash missing, money he needed to pay his taxes.

The business owner reviewed surveillance video in an effort to find out who stole the money. Police say the video showed a man removing the money from the wallet while an accomplice watched out for witnesses. The two men then left the store quickly to avoid being detected.

Sgt. Ken Groat, the detective who handled the case, tracked down the suspects in an apartment complex on Dec. 3, 2020.

Keith Alan Stanley was arrested and charged with larceny. Charges were not authorized for the accomplice.

However, the victim was still without his money and could not pay his taxes. Wyandotte police received a call from a local business owner who wished to remain anonymous.

They donated $700 to the victim as an act of kindness.

"Although we cannot disclose the name of this person, we can say that this person routinely touches others with kindness and is the epitome of selflessness," Wyandotte police said.
