DETROIT (WXYZ) — A large storm system will bring heavy snow and wind to the Upper Midwest and Central Plains with rain and milder temperatures from the deep South to the Great Lakes region. Our temperatures here in Metro Detroit will continue to climb throughout the afternoon today into tonight before we peak in the 50s on Friday.

It will be warmer in Metro Detroit tomorrow than in Dallas, Little Rock and St. Louis, just to name a few! However, this milder weather pattern won't last long at all.

It will be a quick warm-up and a big reality check within a brief 24-hour time frame. A strong cold front sweeps through Friday night and drags colder air back down into Michigan with more seasonable highs in the 30s this weekend.

Also, keep in mind, we will be tracking widespread rain showers starting today into Friday with some of the heaviest downpours this afternoon and evening.

A rumble of thunder will also be possible, mainly from Detroit southward. This wet weather may slow down any travel plans you have through the evening hours.
