Lawmakers consider legalizing 'hunter pink'

Right now, hunters in Michigan are required to wear hunter orange, but a proposed bill could add pink to that list.

House Bill 5484 would allow hunters to wear hunter orange or hunter pink. Hunter pink is described as a highly visible color like bright pink, blaze pink or fluorescent pink.

“It defies that it’s female and I believe women should go out there hunting as well as the men,” says hunter Patricia Sanchez.

Wisconsin has already adopted a similar bill and Colorado Legislature is following in those footsteps approving a bill that allows hunters to choose between the two colors. Louisiana is also considering the change.

“I think it would be great. I don’t like the orange. It clashes with everything so I prefer the pink,” says hunter Laura Grinnell.

Lawmakers hope the color attracts more women hunters but they also say the pink is more visible than orange.
