Another big victory for business in downtown Detroit! As Dan Gilbert's Bedrock Real Estate Services announced its first building sale in the historic Capitol Park District.

Automotive supplier Lear Corporation announced it purchased of the 119 State Street building to create an innovation and design center.

The six-story building at the corner of State and Shelby streets will be a hub for advanced automotive concept development, and a learning center for Detroit college students.

The building is Bedrock's first sale and Gilbert says the Southfield-based company is a perfect fit for the redevelopment of Capitol Park.

"They don't come to Detroit because it's a charitable thing. They come to Detroit because of the great business conditions. I think we're just beginning here so it's very, very exciting,” says Dan Gilbert.

The building dates back to 1887 and was originally home to the Brown Brothers Tobacco Company.

Lear's innovation and design center will open in 2016.
