(WXYZ) — Prosecutors have filed felony charges against a Livonia parent in connection with the death of a 3-month-old girl in mid-June.
Allen Abel, 46, faces two felonies for involuntary manslaughter and second-degree child abuse.
Police say Abel and the child's mother were intoxicated back in mid-June when their 3-month-old baby girl Makenna Abel stopped breathing due to a type of asphyxia.
Police answered a call on Rensellor Street near Seven Mile and Inkster roads. The child was rushed to Beaumont Hospital in Farmington Hills. Sources say the infant died there and police then focused their investigation on her parents.
The child's father is currently serving time at Bellamy Creek Correctional Facility, where he's been since September. Records show he's serving three to five years for driving while intoxicated. His wife, whose name is not being released at this time, has not been charged at this point.
Abel faces as much as 15 years behind bars if he's convicted.
Prosecutors are not commenting any further at this time, and have not yet said when he'll be appearing in court for an arraignment.
