Writer, director, actor and native Detroiter Kamal Smith is exploring the myths and truths about relationships in his new film “Coffee Talk.”

Smith said the film is based on real-life conversations he had with his friends. He says it’s a look at love, friendships and the art of dating. The film explores what happens when you find the right person, but have no idea how to tell them.

The film is premiering at the Emagine Theatre in Royal Oak, 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9. Tickets are $25 and are available at eventbrite.com.
