The 7 Investigators have learned that the Michigan State Police got a search warrant for the phone that was used for the alleged blackmail messages that Todd Courser claims he received.
A magistrate in Lapeer signed the search warrant Wednesday and he says the Michigan State Police want to find out as much as they can about the phone that was used to send those alleged blackmail text messages to Courser.
Thursday night, we spoke with Magistrate Greg Wise. He says the search warrant orders AT&T to turn over any information about who purchased the phone, which numbers were called or texted, and the credit card that was used.
The warrant also asks the company to reveal any GPS tracking information to determine where the pre-paid phone may be, and whether it’s on.
You’ll recall, Courser claims he sent out a fake email to distract from his affair with Representative Cindy Gamrat. He has said he did that because he was receiving text messages from a “313” phone number that threatened to expose him.
But former 7 Investigator and Private Investigator Scott Lewis says when he was hired to track the phone – he made a surprising discovery.
"So what we know is that somebody walked into a store and bought a minute phone, using the name Todd Courser," Lewis told 7 Action News. "Whether it was Todd Courser or somebody else using that name, there’s no way for us to know."
With this search warrant, the Michigan State Police should be able to solve this mystery as to who purchased the phone.
