Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel has announced a new link as part of www.macombgov.org to better help people understand road conditions and costs associated with fixing them.
The site will allow people to see each county owned road, along with the amount of money needed to repair it.
The goal of the site is to help everyone gain a better understanding of the real costs of fixing our roads, and to hold state leaders accountable when it comes to delivering funding.
“Currently, we need a billion dollars to properly fix our roads in Macomb County” says Hackel.
However, that’s a far cry from the resources he says the county has to work with.
“A generous estimate of what we have coming in this year from the state is about $50 million,” said Hackel.
He adds, “Its time for our elected leaders to do their jobs and let’s fix the problem, or be honest and say they won’t and we’ll have to fix it ourselves locally.”
The announcement today was made to a large group of local, state and federal leaders concerned about the state of our roads.
Hackel tells 7 Action News the estimates don’t include the cost of repairing subdivisions and state owned roads. He says a millage could be a possibility if lawmakers fail to deliver funding in a timely manner.
