Macomb County loaning $20 million to help sinkhole, interceptor drain

Posted

The Macomb interceptor drain drainage district just got the green light for a $20 million loan from the county to help pay for damages relating to the Fraser sinkhole.

This afternoon, the Macomb County Board approved the request from Public Works Commissioner Candice Miller 13-0.

The approved loan is expected to be available over the next four months, but Miller says it will be repaid.

Finances are now a top concern for officials, who say they expect the entire restoration project to cost between $70 and $80 million.

Officials say the temporary bypass is expected to be built by the first week of March. At that point, the county says they'll be able to let up on some of those water restrictions.
