MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. — A Macomb County man was found guilty of raping his friend’s young daughter while he was living with the family in St. Clair Shores.

Shane Chupa faces the possibility of life in prison for the assault, which prosecutors said happened at the girl’s home in 2011, when she was just 8 or 9-years-old.

It took a jury just two hours to find Chupa, 46, guilty of two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, and one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Police said Chupa was a longtime friend of the victim’s father and lived with the family on two separate occasions. The first was in Clinton Township when the victim was just five-years-old.

The assault happened several years later, in 2011, at the victim’s St. Clair Shores home.

Charges came after the victim, now seventeen, told a friend and a family member about the assault nearly seven years later.

“We want to thank the jury for trusting this brave young girl who found the courage to come forward,” said prosecutors in a press release.
