(WXYZ) — Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham is warning residents of a scammer posing as a detective.
Multiple residents have reported scam phone calls; officials say the caller is reported to be a man stating he is "Detective Holmes." The phone number associated with the call is 586-701-2325.
Officials say the caller has asked for money, stated the resident has missed jury duty and has even told the resident to report to the sheriff's office to speak with Detective Holmes. Authorities say that in some cases, the caller has sent paperwork to the resident's work place requesting a signature.
The sheriff's office says the caller is not Detective Holmes and does not work for them; the phone number does not belong to the sheriff's office and members will not request money in lieu of an arrest, or other reason.
