Magnitude 4.0 earthquake hits northeast of Cleveland

EASTLAKE, Ohio (WXYZ) — A magnitude 4.0 earthquake has hit northeast of Cleveland, Ohio, the U.S. Geological Survey said. According to the USGS, the earthquake hit at 10:50 a.m. EDT in Lake Erie.

Our sister station in Cleveland, WEWS, said areas near the quake include Euclid, Eastlake and Mentor, and fire departments in each city confirmed feeling a rumbling.

In April of last year, a 3.6-magnitude earthquake was felt in metro Detroit after it was recorded near Amherstburg, Ontario, south of the city.
