HIGHLAND PARK, Mich. (WXYZ) — Police say a woman was beat, cut and reportedly had a gun held to her head before sneaking out of a house and escaping her captor.
Police initially described it as a barricaded gunman situation Tuesday morning, but later said it turned out to be an empty home in Highland Park.
Authorities say the woman was held hostage from midnight until the morning hours. Her captor reportedly fell asleep, allowing her to escape.
"The information we're getting is that he cut her, and then put a gun to her head and to his head," said Highland Park Police Chief Chester Logan.
Police say the suspect turned himself in peacefully.
