A New York man has been sentenced Wednesday for the 2013 death of a gay Detroit man.

A Detroit judge sentenced Andrew Czarnecki to life in prison without the possibility of parole for his conviction of first-degree murder. Czarnecki was also sentenced to 11-20 years for armed robbery and 57 months to 11 years for mutilation of a dead body, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.

The sentences will run concurrently, according to the judge.

On Dec. 5, a Detroit jury found Andrew Czarnecki guilty of first-degree murder, felony murder, armed robbery and mutilation of a dead body. The conviction carries a mandatory life sentence.

The case was prosecuted by a prosecutor from the Fair Michigan Justice Project, a program that assists Michigan law enforcement officers and prosecutors in solving serious crimes against lesbians, gays, bisexual and transgender people.
