PONTIAC, Mich. (WXYZ) — A man allegedly tried to kidnap a 3-year-old girl at a liquor store in Pontiac, authorities say.

Oakland County Sheriff's deputies responded to the Store Liquor Store on East Auburn Road on the report of an attempted kidnapping. Upon arrival, a woman told deputies that a man tried to grab her daughter.

The suspect, 30-year-old Stevie Hutchins, was arraigned Monday.

The woman told police that she yelled at the suspect to step away. The suspect reportedly stepped away, then came back and grabbed the girl again and tried to pull the child away from her mother. Authorities say a friend of the mother's displayed a can of mace and pointed it in the suspect's direction. The suspect let go of the child and ran away from the store.

Deputies then located the suspect walking along East Auburn Road and took him into custody. He was then taken to the scene where he was positively identified by the mother.

Hutchins is lodged at the Oakland County Jail and is facing one count of attempted kidnapping child enticement, which is a felony that carries up to five years in prison.
