SUMPTER TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — A 34-year-old Canadian man was crushed to death by a piece of heavy machinery Friday morning in Sumpter Township.
Police say the fatal accident occurred at the Carleton Farms Landfill located at 288000 Clark Road.
The victim worked for a Canadian trucking company hauling trash to the landfill, police say. He reportedly experienced mechanical problems with his vehicle and was being assisted in maneuvering by a piece of heavy machinery. At a point during this period, the victim exited his vehicle without the knowledge of the machinery operator and was crushed to death by his vehicle when it was moved by the heavy machinery.
Police are still investigating the incident.
