OAKLAND CO., Mich. (WXYZ) — A 33-year-old man sentenced for disorderly conduct and retail fraud escaped from a Rochester Hills courtroom just before he was to be taken into custody.
The incident happened June 5 at the 52nd 3rd District Court in Rochester Hills.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, the Pontiac man was sentenced to 90 days in the Oakland County Jail by Judge Nancy Carniak. When a deputy arrived to take him into custody, he fled from the courthouse.
Multiple deputies then attempted to pursue the man on foot. The man was able to exit the courthouse and was eventually apprehended in a wooded area in front of the Oakland County Sheriff's Office – Rochester Hills Substation, which is attached to the courthouse.
The man was then taken to the Oakland County Jail, and faces being charged with escaping lawful custody and resisting and obstructing a police officer.
